This lake is named for the Pink family who settled here in the 1820s—not its colour. A blue-green gem nestled in the Laurentian foothills of western Quebec, it was once part of the ancient Champlain Sea. It holds unmixed meromictic waters—one of only about 12 such lakes in Canada. There is no oxygen in the bottom seven metres, where the only life is a prehistoric bacterium, which happens to be pink!
